The sum also represents a 67.1% drop from an all-time-high of almost $1.2 billion reached in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>While juniors\u2019 difficulties to access finance also played a role, the Canadian Chamber of Commerce (Cancham) in Mexico says actions such as the one-month blockade of Newmont Goldcorp\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/newmont-goldcorp-halt-mexico-mine-due-blockade\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Pe\u00f1asquito gold mine<\/a> and the ongoing obstruction to MAG Silver\u2019s project in Chihuahua have weighed in.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In general, the economy of extortion is a factor of uncertainty for mining activity,&#8221; Cancham\u2019s president, Armando Ortega, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eleconomista.com.mx\/empresas\/Exploracion-minera-registro-su-menor-inversion-en-12-anos-20190506-0006.html\"  rel=\"noopener\">told <em>El Economista<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div grow much in the next few years, as President Andres Manuel L\u00f3pez Obrador\u00a0has promised to increase scrutiny on miners\u2019 environmental practices and treatment of Indigenous
