And to save money and time, he ate the vast majority of his meals at \u201cgreasy spoon\u201d diners. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">So by the time I was born he had gained a college diploma\u2026 a solid job\u2026 and also more than a hundred pounds of extra weight. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">One day, when I was in elementary school, Dad decided it was time to do something about his health. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">He wanted to be around as I grew up so he designed a simple weight loss system that relied on the same discipline he used during his school years.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The first step was watching what he ate a bit more carefully. For example, I remember him removing half of the bun whenever he had a hamburger. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But the keystone of the whole plan was that, instead of eating lunch, he started taking a brisk two-mile walk every day during his break. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Sounds almost too simple, right? And yes, it flies in the convention of \u201csmaller meals throughout the day\u201d and all the other current thinking on weight loss.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Still, it worked! And Dad went from more than 280 pounds to back under 180.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">More importantly, he has kept the majority of that weight off all the way through today \u2013 35 years later! <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Weight Loss and Wealth Building <\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">As a lot of people like to point, weight loss simply boils down to fewer calories coming in than you\u2019re burning off. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That\u2019s exactly what Dad accomplished by cutting out lunch and replacing it with exercise.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Really, all he had to do was stick with the system and some degree of success was practically inevitable! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s the same basic thing with wealth building.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">If you spend less than you earn, you gain money over time. The longer you do it, the more you gain. The bigger the difference, the more you save. If there are investment earnings in there, things compound even faster.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Again, it\u2019s pretty simple. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Want to take it a step further and become a trader?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Then you want to increase your number of winning trades to pack on the wealth by compounding the gains on top of each other. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">And you want to cut your losers before they do much damage to your overall results. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That way your portfolio grows fatter, faster!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">But how do you do this in a systematic way?<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Just like dad\u2019s diet, there are two basic steps to take:<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Step 1: Institute Stop Losses on Every Trade You Make<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">These orders tell your brokerage to automatically sell a given investment if it drops to a predetermined level. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">That way, you are out before the investment has a chance to drop any further. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">You can also continually raising these stop losses along with any success you begin seeing \u2013 so that your overall downside keeps getting reduced in the process.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Please note: I am not talking about so-called \u201cmental stop losses,\u201d which so many people love to use. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Having predetermined prices at which you <i>MIGHT <\/i>cut losses is far different from actually entering those orders with your brokerage the minute you institute any particular position.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In fact, I would say this crucial difference is what separates successful traders from the legions of wannabes.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 \u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It\u2019s too easy to change your mind once a trade goes against you! <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Of course, you also need\u2026 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Step 2: Determine Your Price Targets and Enter Them as Additional Sell Orders<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">In a more active approach, having predetermined profit targets is just as important as having defined stop losses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Because the whole point is moving from one winner to the next as quickly as possible\u2026 unemotionally\u2026 and without looking back or second-guessing your decisions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">No matter how good of an investor you are, you\u2019ll never get your timing right all of the time. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Nor do you need to.
