Pan African Minerals, a unit of Timis Mining Corp., won\u2019t resume production at its Tambao mine in Burkina Faso as a Paris-based arbitration court has dismissed the company\u2019s $2.2 billion claim against\u00a0the West African nation.<\/p>\n
Tambao, one of the world\u2019s largest\u00a0manganese mines, was forced to halt activities in 2015 following a change in leadership\u00a0in Burkina Faso. The company then asked International Chamber of Commerce\u2019s International Court of Arbitration\u00a0to prevent its permit from being withdrawn.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, the country\u2019s new government began looking for a new partner<\/a> to mine the manganese deposit, with estimated reserves of 100 million tonnes of the steel-making ingredient.<\/p>\n In April last year, the nation announced it was ending its agreement with\u00a0Pan African Minerals.<\/p>\n The arbitration court\u2019s ruling determined that \u201cthe termination of the contract by Burkina was valid and justified in law,\u201d Global Arbitration Review reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n The West African country has experience increasing mining activity in the past decade,
