Immortality is almost here.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This \u2018futurist\u2019 has been frightening the masses with his predictions for years.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He predicted the collapse of the Soviet Union, described the rise of the Internet, and foretold the year a computer would beat a World chess champion\u2026 along with dozens of other predictions that have come true or are being realized today.<\/p>\n<p>His critics have called him \u201cone of the greatest hucksters of the age,\u201d and a \u201cnarcissistic crackpot obsessed with longevity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Love him or hate him, Ray Kurzweil is a man whose track record speaks for itself.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Co-author of multiple books focusing on how to extend one\u2019s life, and living well, Kurzweil has spent decades figuring out the secret to eternal life.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He breaks down the journey to immortality in three steps (called bridges).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bridge One:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>applying what we know today to help us extend our lives.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Eating healthy, exercising, avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol \u2013 these are things that help us reach Bridge Two (Biotechnology).<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Biotechnology, is what Kurzweil and Grossman believe will help humans overcome disease and the ageing process.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kurzweil and Grossman also saw potential in biotechnology regenerating cells and organ tissues \u2013 predictions we\u2019re already seeing come true today.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kurzweil believes that by the year 2045, biotechnology will be sufficient enough to make humans live forever.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The final bridge humans need to cross to realize immortality is nanotechnology.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNanotechnology will enable us to rebuild and extend our bodies and brains and create virtually any product from mere information, resulting in remarkable gains in prosperity,\u201d says Kurzweil.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>He predicts that nano machines will take over our immune system (fixing problems like cancerous cells and clogged arteries) and connecting our brains to the cloud ultimately extending human life indefinitely.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In his books, Kurzweil provides a more actionable plan to improving longevity with concrete evidence.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The plan is laid out in an easy-to-remember acronym \u2018transcend\u2019 which I\u2019ll walk you through today.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><b>T<\/b>alk to your doctor<\/li>\n<li><b>R<\/b>elaxation<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>A<\/b>ssessment<\/li>\n<li><b>N<\/b>utrition<\/li>\n<li><b>S<\/b>upplementation<\/li>\n<li><b>C<\/b>alorie reduction<\/li>\n<li><b>E<\/b>xercise<\/li>\n<li><b>N<\/b>ew technologies<\/li>\n<li><b>D<\/b>etoxification<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><b>Talk to your doctor<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Kurzweil and Grossman are big advocates of preventative medicine. They recommend a typical doctor-patient visit consists of three parts.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Medical History<\/li>\n<li>Physical Exam<\/li>\n<li>Laboratory Testing<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here\u2019s what they recommend you do for each part:<\/p>\n<p><b>1.<\/b> <b>Medical History\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Compile your personal and familial medical histories prior to your doctor\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Include personal information on your diet, sleep patterns, medications and supplements and exercise program.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Include family information from your parents, children and siblings.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Physical Exam<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Several components can be done at home (e.g. breast self-exams and testicular self-exams) and you should get in the habit of performing these regularly.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>A comprehensive physician will also examine your head, lungs, heart, abdomen, spine and other body systems.<\/p>\n<p><b>3.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Laboratory Testing<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Many tests (e.g. cholesterol, homocysteine levels) are routinely done by conventional physicians.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Others (e.g. hormone levels, vitamin levels) are less routinely done, but you can request them during your visit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Relaxation<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>There is no way to eliminate all stress, so Kurzweil and Grossman recommend you learn how to better manage your stress.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Time management\u2014maintain a plan to organize your time and avoid over commitment<\/p>\n<p>Priorities\u2014checking and resetting your priorities ensures you do what is important and allow yourself time for spontaneity and relaxation<\/p>\n<p>Relationships\u2014maintaining close interpersonal relationships are essential, providing an outlet for emotional energy and a network of understanding<\/p>\n<p>Implementing the 4 C\u2019s into your daily life can help you develop and maintain a positive constructive\u00a0<b>attitude<\/b>.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><i>Challenge<\/i>\u2014choosing a difficult objective worthy of your efforts<\/li>\n<li><i>Commitment<\/i>\u2014staying on task to meet the challenge<\/li>\n<li><i>Curiosity<\/i>\u2014cultivating an open mind and a desire to learn<\/li>\n<li><i>Creativity<\/i>\u2014using your imagination to innovate<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><b>Assessment<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe two pillars that will help you to live\u2014and remain in optimal health\u2014long enough to take full advantage of upcoming health technologies are Prevention and Early Detection of disease,\u201d says Kurzweil.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Lifestyle choices are the key to successful prevention.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Eating healthy, exercising, avoiding bad habits like smoking and drinking excessive amounts of alcohol will all compound in a successful prevention plan.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>For early detection, there are a number of tests you can perform like, breast self-exams, heart rate\u00a0 blood pressure,\u00a0and fitness testing.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Nutrition<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Nutrition is a nuanced topic so it will vary from person to person.
