Vedanta Zinc International (VZI), a subsidiary of London-listed Vedanta Resources (LON:VED), is bringing its Black Mountain Mining (BMM) operations in South Africa up to speed in terms of digital innovations by implementing Sandvik\u2019s OptiMine platform.<\/p>\n
The miner, which expects to boost safety, efficiency and productivity\u00a0with the solution, will commission OptiMine for trucks, loaders and drills next year, accelerating BMM\u2019s data-driven operation for world-class mining, it said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Sandvik\u2019s digital platform includes equipment\/asset location tracking; planning and task management; scheduling; monitoring equipment and operations and OptiMine Analytics with IBM Watson IoT.<\/p>\n \u201cOptiMine gives us end-to-end visibility and control over our underground mining operations,\u201d Andre Trytsman, General Manager, BMM said in the statement. \u201cIt was important to us to have the full scope, from scheduling to analytics, to ensure we\u2019re optimised for the safest and most productive operation possible\u201d<\/p>\n BMM’s copper-zinc-silver operations comprise two underground shafts \u2013 Deeps and Swartberg \u2013 and a processing plant.\u00a0It also holds Vedanta Zinc International\u2019s flagship\u00a0Gamsberg\u00a0project, said to be one of the world\u2019s largest undeveloped zinc deposits.<\/p>\n VZI\u2019s vision is to create a Southern African zinc cluster that incorporates both Black Mountain Mining and the Gamsberg project as well
