Both gold and silver prices have struggled in 2018, but Great Panther Silver<\/a>\u2018s (TSX:GPR<\/a>,NYSEMKT:GPL) Jim Bannantine believes the downtrend is not here to stay.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s not fatal for us, we still make money at today’s silver and gold prices,\u201d he said on the sidelines of the recent Denver Gold Forum. \u201cWe’re okay today, but we don’t like it like it is, and nor do we believe this is a natural supply\/demand balance situation,\u201d continued Bannantine, Great Panther’s president and CEO.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe gold and silver prices are really driven by very hot US equity markets and a very strong dollar \u2014 we don’t think that can last forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bannantine also shared insight on Great Panther’s recent acquisition of Beadell Resources<\/a> (ASX:BDR<\/a>), calling it a \u201cgreat deal for both companies.\u201d<\/p>\n

He commented, \u201cit gives Great Panther scale with the roughly 150,000-ounce production level of Beadell.\u201d The acquisition, announced during the conference, also \u201cgives Beadell shareholders [Great Panther’s] balance sheet,\u201d which stands at $60 million in cash and no debt.<\/p>\n

Moving forward, Bannantine said there are three milestones investors can watch for from Great Panther: steady operations in Mexico, the closure of the deal with Beadell and \u201cthe continued rise and turnaround of Beadell’s operations.\u201d He noted, \u201cwe think the combination of the two companies is a 1+1 = 3.\u201d<\/p>\n
