{"id":1065174,"date":"2018-10-04T10:44:53","date_gmt":"2018-10-04T10:44:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1065174"},"modified":"2018-10-04T10:44:53","modified_gmt":"2018-10-04T10:44:53","slug":"vale-studying-1b-expansion-of-salobo-copper-mine-in-brazil-report-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/juniorminingnews.com\/?p=1065174","title":{"rendered":"Vale studying $1B expansion of Salobo copper mine in Brazil \u2014 report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-style:italic;font-size:16px\">By  <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mining.com\/vale-studying-1b-expansion-salobo-copper-mine-brazil-report\/\">Cecilia Jamasmie<\/a><\/span>  <\/p>\n<p>Vale (NYSE:VALE), the world&#8217;s No.1 iron ore miner, is set to approve a $1 billion expansion of its vast Salobo copper-gold mine, located in Caraj\u00e1s, Brazil, later this month, according to people with knowledge of the matter.<\/p>\n<p>The project \u2014 known as the Salobo 3 \u2014 is expected to take about three years to complete ah and would add about 50,000 tonnes to the open-pit mine&#8217;s current capacity of 200,000 tonnes of copper per year, the anonymous sources <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloombergquint.com\/markets\/vale-is-said-close-to-approving-1-billion-brazil-copper-project#gs.ZUiF0kg\" rel=\"noopener\">told <em>Bloomber<\/em>g<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At around 1,800km2, Caraj\u00e1s is the second largest land holding in a region known for iron oxide copper-gold deposits of which Salobo is the prime example.
